SCIENCE FRIDAY KIDS CONNECTION sponsored by National Public Radio and many affiliated science institutions.
November 2007
SCIENCE CURRICULUM RESOURCES FOR KIDS
These resources are based on National Public Radio’s award-winning radio program, Talk of the Nation: Science Friday, hosted each Friday afternoon by veteran science journalist and author, Ira Flatow
Each content page has a summary of the radio program, discussion ideas, activities, links to the audio, selected resources, and related science standards. They are all found on the web.
The science standards are selected from a national list developed by McREL, the Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning in Denver, Colorado. McREL is a nationally recognized, private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to make a difference in the quality of education for all through applied research, product development, and service.
For information on their Content Knowledge: A Compendium of Standards and Benchmarks for K-12 Education: 4th Edition, go to http://www.mcrel.org/standards-benchmarks/
Used together, educators can make Talk of the Nation: Science Friday their weekly backgrounder, and the Kids’ Connection a springboard to curriculum enhancements, extra credit projects, or an accelerated learning program.
The Science Friday Kids’ Connection is produced by KIDSNET, the online resource helping educators, families and children harness the learning opportunities available from broadcast, radio and multimedia resources. For more information, go to www.kidsnet.org
