ALPHABETICAL BRAIN VOCABULARY
Flash Card #31 - Details
WHAT IS YOUR
"LIMBIC SYSTEM"
AND WHY IS IT
SO IMPORTANT?
Your LIMBIC SYSTEM responds to perceived danger or threats associated with learned emotions automatically. It alerts your PFC (PreFrontal Cortex), which is your "conscious self," for further instructions to protect yourself.
It does this by "releasing" (triggering) many kinds of hormones from small "clusters" of NEURONS known as "modules," which are intricately interconnected by "nerve tracts."
Your LIMBIC SYSTEM is located deep inside your brain where it can store "long-term memories," in your HIPPOCAMPUS for your survival!
According to the evolutionary Triune Brain explanation, it evolved from your primitive MAMMALIAN BRAIN to first create "social attachments" among non-human mammals, which eventually became our human "modern family" with its intimate protective relationships.
