ALPHABETICAL BRAIN VOCABULARY
Flash Card #15 - Details

WHAT IS YOUR
"LONGITUDINAL FISSURE"
AND WHY IS IT
SO IMPORTANT?

Your LONGITUDINAL FISSURE is the "membrane" that separates your Right CEREBRAL HEMISPHERE from your Left CEREBRAL HEMISPHERE.

The fact that your CEREBRUM is divided into two major sections means that your brain functions have some built-in redundancy and also have some unique specialized functions. The fact that your CEREBRUM is divided into two separate but connected organs of tissue is know as "lateralization" of function.

This separation of your CEREBRAL CORTEX brain structure is thought to be one of the causes of your capacity to see with 3-dimensional eyesight.
