ALPHABETICAL BRAIN VOCABULARY
Flash Card #59 - Details
WHAT IS YOUR
"IMPLICIT MEMORY"
AND WHY IS IT
SO IMPORTANT?
Your IMPLICIT MEMORIES are distributed widely in NEURAL PATHWAYS throughout your CEREBRAL CORTEX!
They are responsible for your remembering skills and habits that do not have to be consciously thought about, such as eating, talking, walking, making friends, driving a car, or riding a bike.
They are "context-dependent" and often very "deeply buried" and they can be detached fragments of past experiences.
They contribute significantly to your self-awareness, even though they are "unconscious" memories and they can influence your behavior without a reason since they are often associated with strong smells, fears or angry episodes in your previous experiences or relationships!
They are slow and inflexible but very reliable since they involve your BASAL GANGLIA and CEREBELLUM.
