Just think of the small animals roaming around and escaping the claws and teeth and feet of gigantic dinosaurs. Those small animals evolved into us after major geologic shifts in the continents and ice ages that wiped out huge numbers of species on earth. Now that we are living with sophisticated technology created by science, which can control many of the conditions of nature in an uncertain but largely predictable world, the scientific method must be the standard by which we judge the facts about human potential.
