  1. Fissures = Deep Grooves

  2. Gyrus = Ridges

  3. Sulci = Shallow Grooves
    Your gray matter grooves are called "fissures" when deep and "sulci" when shallow.

    The fissures and some large sulci outline your brain's FOUR LOBES. They are regions with specific functional activity areas.

    A ridge of your gray matter's surface is called a "gyrus."
