This website of organized ideas translates the best aspects of the research findings of modern science and technology into a new practical philosophy of life. It can empower you to conquer any obstacle or adverse situation that you may encounter in the future. When the ideas of thousands of experts are chunked together in concentrated doses of science-based logical words and sentences, as in the Brainpower Mindset, the impact for understanding the ideas is profound.

The training principle used to convey the critical survival issues is called "best practices" at the university and corporate management level of career education. You can both survive and thrive in an uncertain but predictable world by learning about The Brainpower Theory of True Happiness, which conveys brilliant ideas for achieving personal success in an often confusing and sometimes chaotic culture.

1.1. GET ON THE FREEWAY TO HAPPINESS QUICKLY

The information on this website is arranged according to the basic belief that the only way you can achieve true "self-liberation" is by knowing the new "brain science facts" of life from the perspective of evolutionary biology and psychology. The profound implications of using the Brainpower Mindset matrix of logical scientific ideas to empower yourself to conquer any obstacle or adverse situation that you encounter in the future. The dynamic process can be thrilling as you immerse yourself in the of "Self-Creation" aspect of cogitation on the Freeway to Happiness.

The synergy created when you connect your own personal rational experience with the evidence-based scientific experimental data about how your brain works in the Brainpower Mindset can produce an awesome life-changing and inspiring emotional high, as memorable as good sex.

You can learn what your brain's fourteen main parts are and also what they do individually --- even though your own brain may resist changing its perception unless you create the correct conditions for positive change. In addition, you can learn how your five dynamic brain regions function together --- even though they have a complex and profound interactive connectivity that has been largely hidden from rational understanding throughout most of human history.

[1] You First Absolute Philosophical Assumption: Your brain is the singular cause of your awareness of life and your English language makes human life precious.

Until the recent invention of computerized Magnetic Resonance Imaging machines, humans were groping in dark mental dungeons of inappropriate spiritual metaphors with mixed messages and simplistic disconnected affirmations attempting to justify the separation of their minds and bodies so they had a justification for believing in an afterlife.

But now science has proven that your brain is the singular cause of your awareness of life, and that all healthy brains have the same basic design. You can choose to use your rational and logical skills to evaluate the purpose and meaning of your life and delete the misinformation of the past. The solid science-based knowledge on this website can focus your self-awareness on both your personal need for success and your social need to interact with others.

Bluntly, you can learn how your emotions can be controlled by your thoughts when they are understood in the humanistic value framework of the Brainpower Mindset categories of ideas that are framed in a matrix structure of twelve common subject categories. With it, you can create a new forward looking vision of the future --- with you as one shining star among a constellation of other bright shining stars of all colors, races, religious backgrounds and sexual orientations.

The formula that describes the essential parts of the critical thinking process of motivating yourself to act boldly and release your consciousness from fear, negativity, ignorance, superstitions, prejudices, magical thinking, and chemical addictions is Self-Creation + Self-Esteem + Self-Actualization = Self-Liberation. When these three major aspects of your self-awareness are all organized into one integrated philosophy of life, you will have created your own personal Self-Liberation Philosophy.

When you were a child, you were compelled to learn a language and a set of moral values by using specific words from that language in order to survive in your family and community. The profound impact of your family's language will be analyzed later on this website in terms of its brainpower dynamics. For now, it is essential to realize how important your new brain awareness vocabulary will be for the rest of your life.

When you add the science-based brain-related keywords to your speaking vocabulary, you will be able to focus on your own personal humanistic moral values and democratic political values. Since you will have more accurate words with which to describe your new brainpower knowledge and potential, you will also be able to evaluate the influence of cultural values on your personal lifestyle choices better.

The ultimate goal of the Self-Liberation Philosophy is to achieve Self-Control within the context of the Self-Liberation Formula. When you achieve authentic "Self-Creation" by making appropriate choices, and increase your positive "Self-Esteem" by valuing yourself more, and become "Self-Actualized" by making better decisions, you will have achieved authentic "Self-Control".

You will be freer and feel freer to make better choices related to your goals and plans. This is an essential distinction to remember, because your values have been buried in your subconscious feelings since childhood. To repeat, your "brainpower" is caused by your brain's fourteen main parts and five main functional regions --- no matter whether you understand the vital relationships among the parts of your brain and their functions or not.

Therefore, your best use of your own brain is to use it to get a clear modern understanding of how your brain works. You can use the four action steps of the Brainpower Literacy Plan at the following link to "test" your comprehension and knowledge of your own brainpower potential:

Brainpower Literacy Plan

The new confidence you will have by knowing the definitions and the objective scientific explanations of your brain's role in creating your perception of reality can make your effort extemely valuable in your daily life because you will have a new appreciation for how your brainpower knowledge can increase your positive Self-Esteem.

The clear practical definitions related to your brain's fourteen main parts and its five main functional regions are described and their interactive characteristics are explained in the concept of your Brainpower Mindset matrix of ideas on this website. With it as a thinking tool, you will be able to use your brain more efficiently and effectively as you make choices and decisions and create succeessful goals and plans for a happy and satisfying future.

[2] Your Second Absolute Philosophical Assumption: You can separate your old simple immature feelings and values of childhood from your new complex mature feelings and values of adulthood.

Your brain's parts and functional regions can operate peacefully together to provide Self-Control when your thoughts are in charge of your feelings. Your thoughts can reveal your unconscious or subconscious feelings about your personal values, if you are not afraid of your own mortality, and if you have courage based on your connection with the brotherhood of humanity in the common purpose of living life to the fullest and enjoying the accomplishments of men and women everywhere.

If you don't believe this assumption, then your feelings can be in conflict and cause you great confusion and suffering. That is because you do not understand why you have the feelings in the first place and how your memories of your inadequate childhood feelings can dominate your adult life. Faith-based moral values are based on childhood feelings of weakness and dependency. Otherwise, why would you need a "savior" or "blood sacrifice"?

Mature adult "fact-based" values and views, in contrast, are based on the awesome new scientific evidence that explains how your brain works. Science-based moral values are based on adult learning experiences that explain true reality from a scientific perspective of history and the development of the scientific method of inquiry.

To help you understand the crucial significance of knowing the new "brain science facts" of life well, you can drive on a real freeway without knowing anything about how the inside of the engine of your vehicle works. But you would be totally dependent on the knowledge and skill of others if something goes wrong.

In the same way with regard to your brain, you can be alive without knowing anything about how the inside of your amazing brain works. However, if you want to experience the wonderful feeling of Self-Control and the personal power of Self-Liberation, the new brainpower knowledge will give you that ability to solve your problems and build happy relationships.

Human brainpower has been the supreme unconscious quest of all human civilizations, according to the current understanding of the relatively new sciences of evolutionary biology and psychology, Therefore, understanding the importance of your own personal brainpower can give you the freedom of choice regarding your lifestyle goals and plans so you can be more independent of the negative cultural and institutional influencesthat have shaped all our lives to some extent during most of human history, and especially the mass media now.

When you deliberately choose to learn how your memory works in the way recommended on this website in order to reinforce the new ideas about how your brain works, you will be creating stronger memories by using more than one of your five senses at the same time. You will be applying the most efficient "memory builder" ever discovered during the past 30,000-50,000 years of known human history.

[3] Your Third Absolute Philosophical Assumption: You can choose your own life-fulfilling goals by using the new brain science facts of life in your planning process.

You can choose to make the brain awareness vocabulary words as important as everyday household terms. By creating a new understanding of how your awareness of your "SELF" is possible based on the complex way all human brains work, you will have more Self-Control and also be able to choose your own goals and plans and the timing of your decisions better.

Since your brain evolved to keep you alive, it is important to commit enough time to learn the names of your brain's parts and functional regions so you can experience the awesome changes in your daily life. Doing the simple tasks of writing down or underlining or highlighting key words of the brain awareness vocabulary will not only increase your brainpower knowledge but also icrease your "brainpower" itself.

1.1.1. GO FORWARD ON THE FREEWAY TO HAPPINESS USING THE BRAINPOWER MINDSET

Nevertheless, your new enlightened awareness of your "SELF" can provide you with a new philosophy or vision or "mindset" to describe your purpose or mission in life and give you more wisdom to deal with your human relationships and increase your understanding of science and nature.

The Brainpower Mindset is based on the idea that there is no other power greater than yourself, except for other human beings with their own unique brains who have the same opportunity you have to increase your brainpower through purposeful systematic life-long learning. It is important to realize the tremendous role that cultural influences play in determining what you regard as important values. Now you can understand that your true potential for living a happy and satisfying life requires a comprehensive scientific vision or viewpoint consisting of valid factual ideas, especially about the "neuroplasticity" of the human brain. This challenge means that you must understand what evolutionary biology and psychology have discovered about the true brain science facts of life. These must be distinguished from historical metaphorical allusions that were used by previous generations of thinkers to describe what they thought was the truth.

Your parents and friends and familiar institutions and family language "caused" you to think in certain ways when you were younger. But now you have an opportunity to free your SELF from any irrational cultural beliefs that you learned while growing up.

The objective scientific "brainpower science facts" organized on this website can help you organize your own personal ideas about yourself and your philosophy of life. You can "train your brain" in order to "change your mind." The new idea of "neuroplasticity"can help you understand that your brain chemistry can be changed by training your mind to accept the new science-based factual ideas about how your brain actually works.

In fact, your precious brain is the genuine source of all meaning in your life. If you doubt this assertion, then you have a lot to learn. If your brain chemistry makes you more vulnerable to addiction responses, then you can especially benefit from knowing more about your brain structure and functions --- particularly how you can change your brain. You are invited to start your journey to achieve Self-Liberation now.

Since human brainpower is the supreme quest or sacred "Holy Grail" of all human civilizations, according to the science of evolutionary biology and psychology, understanding its importance can free you to be more independent of the negative cultural and institutional influences that have shaped your life up to now.

When you deliberately choose to learn how your memory works in order to reinforce the new ideas about how your brain works, you will be creating stronger memories --- if you use more than one of your five senses at the same time. You will be applying the most efficient memory builder ever discovered during the past 30,000-50,000 years of known human history.

In this regard, there is a compelling need to update political and religious traditions to match the awesome technological achievements that have brought us so many conveniences as well as unprecedented new knowledge about how our brains work and how we can learn to use our brilliant brainpower potential.

Evolution is sometimes criticized as being an unprovable scientific "theory" instead of a "fact" because it is not compatible with childish myths about creation and sin and heaven. However, "faith-based" totalitarians who are ignorant of modern science, and especially the history of science, fail to appreciate the fact that the idea or concept of evolution has a factual basis that is influencing all aspects of modern life.

Evolution is a rational explanation of biodiversity and the fact that animals and plants are the result of the processes of heredity, genetics, and DNA. People who criticize the idea of evolution wish to remain ignorant of the scientific basis of it, since the implications would force them to change their personal ethical values. They may be either too lazy to grasp the essential ideas or too habituated to "magical thinking" for the true scientific explanations of reality to matter to them. Nevertheless, they need to update their unscientific ideas about history and the meaning of human life with science-based ideas and new humanistic patterns of community interaction, or they will be participating in self-destructive suicide and possibly inflicting their naive ideas on other innocent people including children.

You can experience the awesome glory of the whole story of how your brain's parts and functions interact with each other and also with other vital organs of your body by using the Automated Brain Tutorial at the following link:

1.1.2. NEW MEMORY SKILLS CAN SPEED YOU ON THE FREEWAY TO HAPPINESS

1.1.2. NEW MEMORY SKILLS CAN
SPEED YOU ON THE FREEWAY TO HAPPINESS

By improving your memory skills, you will be able to learn the new brainpower awareness vocabulary faster and remember the ideas better. Through focused study, you will be making new connections in your brain cell tissues at the dynamic microscopic neuron network level. This process of creating new memories starts at the ends of your brain cells or neurons in the "dendrites" or roots of your brain cells, which are called "assemblies".

The proven "Look, Snap, and Connect" method of memory building can be used in conjunction with the "spaced repetition" memory technique to learn how your brain's main parts and functional areas operate together to create your awesome conscious awareness of your SELF. This proven memory building strategy is based on the breakthrough research done by Gary Small and his colleagues at UCLA:

Furthermore, Dr. Daniel Amen, at the Univeristy of California in Irvine, has been the champion sponsor of a revolutionary diagnostic and treatment program by using the latest Magnetic Resonance Imaging ("MRI") machines. His pioneering work creates brain "SPECT" images that diagram the actual brain parts and functional regions of dysfunctional people's brains. An outline of his book, Change Your Brain, Change Your Life, is at the following link:

Book Source: Change Your Brain, Change Your Life

By using the new brain awareness vocabulary in your daily life and relationships, you will be able to increase your understanding of the interactive brain parts and functions more easily and quickly. You will be able to understand the definitions of your brain's parts and clarify the way the parts work together to produce complex functions under the following subject headings:

[1] Your Deep Limbic System (p37-54)

Looking into love and depression by enhancing your positive thought patterns and strengthening their connections with "Deep Limbic System Prescriptions"

Kill the "ANTs" (Automatic Negative Thoughts)

    [2] Your Basal Ganglia

Looking into anxiety and fear and mastering them by using "Basal Ganglia Prescriptions"

    [3] Your Prefrontal Cortex

Looking into inattention and impulsivity by becoming focused with "Prefrontal Cortex Prescriptions"

    [4] Your Cingulate System

Looking into getting unstuck with "Cingulate System Prescriptions"

    [5] Your Temporal Lobes

Looking into your memory and temper by enhancing your experience with "Temporal Lobe Prescriptions"

Scientific studies of brain disordered patients have used thousands of MRI brain scans or "SPECT" pictures of actual brain disorders that clearly demonstrate that the answer to the question "Who are we really?" is that:

"We are really who we are when our brains work right!"

You can feel better today and experience a better future by choosing to maximize your brainpower and take responsibility for controlling your life better right now.

The undeniable fact is that your mind is "programmable" due to its NEUROPLASTICITY. This supreme fact is becoming more widely understood by millions of people. Neuroplasticity is the word brain scientists use to describe the scientifically proven idea that your brain's functions ("MIND") can control your brain's development. The Wikipedia Encyclopedia defines the word "neuroplasticity" as follows:

Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. Neuroplasticity allows the "neurons" (nerve cells) in the brain to compensate for injury and disease and to adjust their activities in response to new situations or to changes in their environment. Brain reorganization takes place by mechanisms such as "axonal sprouting" in which undamaged axons grow new nerve endings to reconnect neurons whose links were injured or severed. Undamaged "axons" can also sprout nerve endings and connect with other undamaged nerve cells, forming new neural pathways to accomplish a needed function.

For example, if one hemisphere of the brain is damaged, the intact hemisphere may take over some of its functions. The brain compensates for damage in effect by reorganizing and forming new connections between intact neurons. In order to reconnect, the neurons need to be stimulated through activity. Neuroplasticity sometimes may also contribute to impairment. For example, people who are deaf may suffer from a continual ringing in their ears (tinnitus), the result of the rewiring of brain cells starved for sound. For neurons to form beneficial connections, they must be correctly stimulated.

Neuroplasticity is also called "brain plasticity" or "brain malleability." (www.wikipedia.com)

Lesson one of this website is to learn the ramifications of the fact that your brain is adaptable because of its "neuroplasticity." By purposefully using the brain awareness vocabuary to describe your SELF, you will be using the best thinking strategies ever created. Since you have an amazing "programmable brain" with an "adaptable mind," you have the freedom to create the SELF of your own choosing!

If you are reading these words, you were able to either search the Internet to find this website or install a CD to view this information --- because of your brainpower! In other words, if you did not have a healthy brain with a healthy mind with the potential to change itself, you would not be able to read this sentence and you would not be able to remember the connections required to make sense of it.

This new science-based self-awareness can be the "tipping point" or turning point in your life and career. Because of your programmable brain, you are able to think about your own happiness and your relationships to other people and things --- and the happiness of the other people in your life! You are now experiencing the "freedom of choice" to navigate from link to link on this website, or to read or to study whatever interests you the most from any source --- because of your amazing brain.

After you have memorized these ideas through "repetition" and "association" or self-guided meditation and reflection, you will be able to see more alternative choices that you can make to improve your life in the future. Also, you can notice the interconnectivity of ideas organized on this website, which can facilitate your future survival and success no matter what your reason-based goals and plans are.

Dozens of new books and thousands of articles are making millions of educated people more aware of the results of the new brain science. The book, Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain, published in 2007, and the magazine article in the January 29, 2007, issue of Time Magazine on pages 72-79, both by reporter Sharon Begley, provide excellent introductions to the new brain research findings:

How the Brain Rewires Itself

The above citations indicate that the parts of your brain tissue that make the process of thinking possible are your brain cells, which are called "neurons." Your neurons contain "dendrites," which can grow like roots on a tree, if you make the right choices to help them grow. New dendrite connections make new neuronal networks whenever you have new experiences or have new ideas or see new relationships.

Your neurons are located in special regions of your brain and are connected by neuron networks. The chemical switches that send signals around your brain and up and down your nervous system are called synapses. The new connections among brain cells created by learning activities start with the "assemblies" of brain tissue "jelly" at the ends of some of the trillions of dendrites in your brain. This makes the neuron networks at the dynamic microscopic molecular level of your brain tissue store the memories of what you are doing!

This biological process gives you the ability to store new memories and reinforce old memories by repetition through the psychological memory principles known as "Association" and "Reinforcement." The new brain science is providing a clearer understanding of how your memory works and makes possible your personal identity and awareness of your SELF.

Once you understand the full importance of your amazing brain's parts and functions, you will have the opportunity to reorganize your memories in an optimum way to survive and also thrive. This "Self-Directed" evolution of your own consciousness, which is a form of "consciousness raising," can make you more happy and satisfied than any other goal you will ever achieve during the rest of your lifetime. To repeat, the existence of trillions of microscopic neurons and billions of neuronal networks makes possible your fabulous memory and also your identity as a unique person.

The best aspects of science and democracy are teaming up in this exciting 21st century to provide the kind of "political freedom" that is essential for the 6 1/2 billion people on Earth to experience true creativity, without the need to rely on mysterious imaginary spiritual or religious forces that are not consistent with the latest scientific knowledge.

The new book by David J. Linden provides a unique thought provoking evolutionary perspective about how your brain's structures and functions evolved over hundreds of thousands of years of development. The following links outline the sequential discoveries that have resulted in today's new understanding of our brainpower potential:

When you know how your brainpower, including your imagination, works, you can create opportunities and possibilities that will bring you authentic happiness and lasting satisfaction. If you deliberately choose to participate in the greatest adventure in human history, this new brainpower knowledge can help you use your five senses and your brainpower or intellect to store new memories of your present life and also to remember the significant events of your past life in order to make successful changes to meet the new demands of your future life.

[1] About 80% of your brain is the deeply wrinkled gray tissue of the "cerebrum." The two halves are the "right hemisphere" and "left hemisphere," which each operate a little differently. Your brain weighs less than a pound at birth and about three pounds by the time you are an adult. It consists of about 100 billion neurons (100,000,000,000 nerve cells) and about ten times as many other cells (1,000,000,000 glial cells) that protect and repair your nerve cells. Therefore, most of your brain consists of "gray matter" with billions of networking neurons and many more brain cells in the "white matter" of your brain.

[2] The "corpus callosum" divides the cerebrum from the rest of your body.

[3] Beneath the corpus callosum are several small structures, such as your "thalamus" and your "hypothalamus."

[4] At the base of your brain is your "cerebellum," which controls automatic functions, such as your breathing and heartbeat.

[5] Your "brainstem" connects to your "spinal cord," which connects to the rest of your body.

The above "brain science facts" are essential for you to start thinking about the power of the new science-based knowledge that demonstrates how your brain works and how your thoughts and feelings can be changed by you. You can compare this level of your knowledge of brain facts to learning about what you need to know in order to drive a new car safely.

You can learn the basic ideas of driving without learning precisely how the engine works or how all the fancy new gadgets operate. You just need to know how to unlock the doors, fill the gas tank with fuel, start the engine, apply the power, and steer the wheels. You don't need to know how the gasoline is vaporized inside the engine and the chemistry of the exploding molecules of gas that are mixed with air molecules to produce energy that is converted to mechanical forces governed by the laws of physics.

If you are willing to learn the brain awareness vocabulary, you can understand the essential factual scientific ideas necessary to think for yourself and delete false memories that can obstruct your creativity and ultimate success.

When you begin to use the new brainpower awareness vocabulary in your thinking and feeling, your fundamental goal or affirmation or mantra can be to:

"Go Forward on the Freeway to Happiness
by Increasing Your Brainpower Now!"

This advanced conscious awareness of your own brainpower potential and the awesome possibilities and opportunities it can give you to achieve authentic happiness and lasting satisfaction must be scrupulously analyzed and applied to keep your "ANTs" or automatic negative thoughts and "SILs" or self-imposed limitations from overcoming your need to succeed.

You will be able to help your amazing brain think better when you understand how important your "Brainpower Literacy" is and how important it is to develop your thinking and memorizing skills as you choose to ride on the "Freeway to Happiness."
2. DEFINING HAPPINESS, AND SATISFACTION AND SELF-CONTROL

When you have developed the thinking and memory skills necessary to evaluate the mixture of electro-chemical signals that are transmitted by your hormones flowing in your blood veins and vessels and the electrical impulses that travel with lightning speed up and down your spine and in and out of your brain, you will be able to create more meaningful goals and accomplish more meaningful plans.

2.1. DEFINING HAPPINESS AND SATISFACTION SCIENTIFICALLY

Healthy habits are essential for a happy lifetime of satisfying relationships and creative solutions to life's problems. Your new brainpower knowledge will permit you to change your goals and plans so they will be more compatible with your new values and assumptions. A good working definition of the word "happiness" is contained in the following quote from the famous author, philosopher, and feminist Ayn Rand The quotations were found on Dr. Ellen Kenner's website by googling "A Rational View of Happiness:"

"Happiness is not the satisfaction of whatever irrational wishes you might blindly attempt to enjoy. Happiness is a state of non-contradictory joy --- a joy without penalty or guilt."

"Happiness is possible only to a rational person, the person who desires nothing but rational goals, seeks nothing but rational values, and finds his [or her] joy in nothing but rational actions."

"There are no victims and no conflicts of interest among rational people, people who do not desire the unearned."

A broader description of the concept of happiness can also be found on the Internet on Dr. Ellen Kenner's website when she answered the question: What is Happiness?

"Happiness is an emotion. So is sadness, love, hate, curiosity, revulsion, excitement, jealousy, contentment, depression, anxiety, fear, guilt and anger. All emotions have causes that can be understood and controlled. The emotion of happiness is not caused simply by concentrating on achieving your whims. Whims are an obstacle to happiness. Happiness is not merely a life lived by accumulating moments of pleasure. On the contrary, happiness is a long lasting enduring enjoyment of life, it is being in love with living. It is your reward for achieving a good character and personal rational values in life."

"Some important values are a productive career, romance, friendship and hobbies. Achieving these values requires rationality and takes effort and skill. Two types of skills you can use are thinking skills and valuing skills. Once you learn to have confidence in your own mind and once you discover the virtues [namely, good thinking and feeling habits] that make it possible for you to achieve your values and that make your life worth living, then you will experience the result, which is an earned pride and a genuine self-esteem."

The following quick links refer to book outlines and excerpts about authentic happiness and lasting satisfaction, which both require the experience of being free to choose your own behavior. They illustrate the combination of "intellect and intuition" or sound practical, natural judgment based on the scientific values and assumptions that are the "factual evidence" discovered by the new brain science research in recent years:

Of all the hundreds of good books, magazines, and journals with stories about how to achieve authentic happiness and lasting satisfaction, the simple straightforward advice in the book The Happy Person clarifies important common sense ideas that you can use to achieve both happiness and satisfaction. The ideas are summarized in a way of thinking called "Direct Decision Therapy": (p191)

[1] Decide WHAT you want in order to be happy --- or happier!

[2] Find the decision BEHIND the problem

[3] Find the CONTEXT for the original decision

[4] List the PAYOFFS for the decision

[5] Examine your ALTERNATIVES to the behavior that is causing the problem

[6] CHOOSE your alternative and DECIDE to put it into practice

[7] SUPPORT your SELF in carrying out your decision
In addition, you can take advantage of another simple way of thinking from the book, It's All in Your Head, when you begin thinking about your philosophy of happiness. Happiness is not the supreme goal of life in itself. But it is the essential by-product of all rational humanistic ethical activities. The book recommends that you can be happier by doing the following four things: (p209)

[1] Use a blank piece of paper or a blank page from your personal journal or a new clear screen on your wordprocessor

[2] List all the things and activities that make you happy

[3] Once you find yourself struggling to come up with more items, STOP
and put your journal aside for a few minutes

[4] Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths of air and then go back and read the items on your list of happy things.

This is a simple way to clear your mind of the "cultural clutter" of the outside world and to start focusing on your genuine personal inner need for accurate "self-awareness". Remember, your real motivational needs start with safety and security and extend to your own personal "Self-Actualization," which requires achieving the sense of belonging and being loveable:

Unique Chart: Maslow's Need Hierarchy Motivation Theory

According to the book Happiness --- Lessons From A New Science, We desperately need a concept of the "common good" or shared purpose. A summary of the conclusions can be used for today's world:

    [1] Happiness matters

      (1) Happiness is an objective dimension of all our experience

      (2) We are programmed to seek happiness

      (3) It is self-evident that the best society is the happiest

      (4) Our society is not likely to become happier unless people agree that this is what we want to happen

    [2] Sources of happiness

      (1) Humans are deeply social beings

      (2) As social beings, we want to trust each other

      (3) People are also deeply attached to the status quo

      (4) Human beings are also status conscious

      (5) Human beings are also very adaptable

      (6) In any case extra income increases happiness less and less as people get richer

      (7) In fact happiness depends on your inner life as much as on your outer circumstances

      (8) Public policy can more easily remove misery than augment happiness

Happiness comes from both outside your body (your culture) and from within your body (your brain). The two sources are not in contradiction:

HAPPINESS IDEA #1 --- The secret of achieving true happiness is to STRIVE FOR COMPASSION towards oneself and others.

HAPPINESS IDEA #2 --- The ethical principle of the GREATEST HAPPINESS FOR THE GREATEST NUMBER OF PEOPLE is essentially the expression of that ideal.

In addition, a recent magazine article from the journal New Scientist (October 4, 2003) was summarized in the world famous Readers Digest (June 2003) magazine. It was entitled "10 Keys to True Happiness" and it emphasized the following ten essential ingredients of happiness based on scientific survey results:

      [1] WEALTH

      [2] DESIRE

      [3] INTELLIGENCE

      [4] GENETICS

      [5] BEAUTY

      [6] FRIENDSHIP

      [7] MARRIAGE

      [8] FAMILY

      [9] CHARITY

      [10] AGE

The January 29, 2007, issue of Time Magazine, had a special section on pages 55-120, which is a great comprehensive introduction to the new "brain science," that contains descriptions of the most important aspects of the new "brainpower science facts:"

Time Magazine: The Brain --- a User's Guide

These latest reports of the new discoveries of the details about how your brain functions provide a treasure of new ideas to apply in your life. However, it is important to realize that most of the basic research was done in the "Brain Decade" of the 1990s when the United States declared brain research to be a high priority. The major results of that national effort were documented in the thick book, The Brain: A User's Manual, which is outlined at the following link:

Book Source: The Brain --- a User's Manual

You can make sense out of the wonderful opportunities and possibilities in the 21st century, which no individuals or groups of people ever had before in history, if you decide to seriously study the new "brainpower science facts" of life in order to comprehend and appreciate your brain.

2.2. HOW THE SUCCESS FORMULA WORKS ON THE FREEWAY TO HAPPINESS

You can be happier and more satisfied with your life if you learn the "brainpower science facts" so you will know how to make your brain your "servant" instead of your "master." The new practical Brainpower Knowledge about how your brain truly functions is essential for genuine Self-Liberation.

Now you can become empowered to be Self-Actualized in the scientific empirical (provable) sense of the Self-Liberation Philosophy, which will liberate you from your learned bad habits of thought with all the negative implications, because they can confuse you and, therefore, undermine your goals and plans for the future.

As your scientific knowledge of the "brainpower science facts" increases and your Brainpower Mindset begins to influence your consciousness and memories, new brain cell connections will increase in your brain tissue. The additional "neuron networks" will increase your conscious control over all your thoughts and feelings about your behavior and core values --- if you choose to pay attention to them.

You will be connected to the reality of true scientific knowledge and at the same time you will feel freer and actually be freer to use your own wonderful brainpower knowledge and the rational humanistic ethical values of the Brainpower Mindset to experience both authentic happiness and lasting satisfaction. Your freedom to adapt to changes in the natural world and to evolve your own conscious awareness of your SELF depends upon the fact that your brain is attached to a healthy body.

You are truly what your amazing brain or "mind-with-body" can perceive and do!

If you feel any resistance to learning and remembering the new "brainpower science facts," it may be useful for you to experience a "turnaround" in your thinking about your brain by asking yourself the following four questions:

    1) Is it true that my own happiness largely depends upon my own positive "attitude of gratitude"? (If your answer is "No," then continue to question #3)

      Possible follow-up questions are:

[1] What is the "reality" of my quest for happiness?

[2] How did I learn the assumption that my happiness largely depends upon my own positive attitude of gratitude? Remember, moralistic "should" statements are not helpful when you are inquiring about the "reality" or "truth" of something. Try to phrase your ideas without feeling angry or fearful as you seek to understand what you mean by "authentic happiness" and "lasting satisfaction"?

    2) Can you absolutely know that this core idea or assumption is real or true for you?

      Possible follow-up questions are:

[1] Can you know more about the nature of happiness and personal success than you do now?

[2] What is your current awareness of your responsibility for your own happiness and satisfaction?

[3] Can you really know what is the best way to achieve happiness and satisfaction in the long run?

[4] Can you absolutely know that you would be happier, or that your life would be more successful, if you decide to learn more about the new brainpower science facts so you can apply the new brainpower knowledge in your life?

    3) How will you react when you strongly believe that your happiness is largely due to your own positive attitude of gratitude?

      Possible follow-up questions are:

[1] Where does the feeling hit you, where do you feel it in your body when you believe that thought?

        Can you describe it?

What do your feelings reveal to you when you "think" about that thought? (Allow your feelings to "live," and notice how much of your body they take over. Where do those feelings take you?)

    4) Who would you be without your thoughts about happiness and satisfaction?

      Possible follow-up questions are:

[1] Who would you become if you started believing the new brainpower science facts?

[2] Close your eyes and imagine yourself remembering the new brain facts and applying them in your major relationships with others. (Describe to yourself how it feels. Write your best thoughts down on paper. What new ideas do you see when you re-read your own descriptions of your feelings about happiness and satisfaction?)

Your statements can be turned around to your SELF, or to others, or to opposite assumptions or conclusions depending upon how much you think about them and their full meanings in your life. Can you find at least three examples in your life where the "turnarounds" are as "real" or "truer" with respect to the new brain facts? (Be as specific and as detailed as you can.)

    Possible follow-up questions are:

[1] Is this "turnaround" as true or truer than your original statements about your brainpower?

[2] Where do you experience this "turnaround" in your life now?

[3] If you lived this "turnaround," what would you do, or how would you live differently?

[4] Do you see any other "turnarounds" that seem as true or truer than applying the new brain facts in your life?

In short, you will be able to understand that you have the "personal power" to delete irrational or negative ideas from your memory. This assertive process requires willpower or purposeful choice on your part so that the useless ideas in your long-term memory resources will not remain to cause confusion or "cognitive dissonance," which is explained in the book reference at the following link:

Book Source:
Mistakes Were Made (But Not By Me)

The authors of this new research-based book, Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson, explain why you and everybody else tries to justify "foolish beliefs and bad decisions and hurtful acts" for the purpose of saving face or justifying the behavior or attitudes that caused the problem. They claim that the "mental engine" that drives the self-justification process, or the motivation that produces the need to justify your actions and decisions, especially the wrong ones, is an unpleasant feeling, which is called "cognitive dissonance."

People experience this cognitive dissonance when they are actually mistaken and unable to correct their perceptions about reality in the present moment.
When you understand the new "brainpower science facts," you will be able to comprehend how the trillions of microscopic brain cells and millions of intricate neuron networks, which make up your brain and nervous system, provide information that can help you form new ideas from the richer "neuron networks" at the dynamic molecular level of your brain tissue. For example, by both seeing and writing down the brain-related words and phrases with the new meanings that describe your brain parts and brain functions, you can transfer that potential brainpower knowledge from your short-term memory resources to your working memory and later to your long-term memory more efficiently and quickly.

This specific learning activity creates new brain cell connections that actually create new memories because the "assemblies" of brain tissue at the ends of your dendrites are like jelly. When you have creative ideas, you are adding new connections of "assemblies" at the ends of your "dendrites" which connect to millions of "neuron networks" in your brain and which also send electrical signals up and down your nervous system.

Your brain's ability to "reorganize itself" also takes place by mechanisms such as "axonal sprouting" in which undamaged axons grow new nerve endings to reconnect neurons whose links were injured or severed. Your neuron's "axons" can sprout nerve endings and connect with other undamaged nerve cells, forming new neural pathways to accomplish a needed function. This incredibly important process is called "neuroplasticity" and it will be explained in more detail on this website.

By methodically doing this memorization process, you can continuously strengthen the memories of the names of your brain parts and brain functions. Also, you may want to test this memory method by choosing any other idea, or definition of any thing or any process, by name and saying it over and over until you automatically recall it. This memorization method, when applied to your own personal and unique Brainpower Mindset" of brain-related ideas, is a kind of creative loop that in turn will allow you to create even stronger connections of ideas related to your thinking and feeling abilities when you consciously desire more brainpower.

Your "reticular-activating system" is activated whenever you think of an idea or feel an emotion or remember a past event or imagine a new idea. When you choose one idea over another or choose one action instead of another, you are using your brainpower to overcome the limitations of habits. You can choose to use this profound idea, if you memorize it and make it a high priority philosophical assumption in your life! With this information, you will now be able to optimize your own basic brainpower. Because of it, you can take advantage of the wealth of organized knowledge connected by the links on this website.

Also, you can use factual data from the Internet's world wide web or read and study other books or talk to people. The scientific knowledge and specific thinking and memory skills necessary to enhance your brainpower have been developed from the results of hundreds of brain studies by thousands of brain scientists during the past two decades as well as more than a century of general psychological studies.

As you gain increased mastery of the essential brain facts and increase your ability to improve aspects of your brain health, your new understanding of your SELF can give you new confidence to evaluate your core values and focus on more planning activities as you re-attribute more positive feelings to all of your personal and civic goals.

The book, Reality Check, by David L. Weiner, explains how your brain's "amygdala", which is the regulator of your brain's "limbic system", appears not only to create fear to help you get through and survive a threatening situation, but it also uses fear and anxiety to protect your "Self-Esteem":

Book Source:
Reality Check --- What Your Mind Knows, But Isn't Telling You

By blocking the "feedback loop of fear" that starts in your brain's "amygdala" and interferes with your ability to think clearly and feel unafraid, you can take active control over the self-destructive automatic negative thoughts (or "ANTs") that can keep you weak and afraid to change or grow. In short, you can have fun while confronting problems and improvising solutions, if you pay attention to the following details:

The word "amygdala" is Greek for the word almond since your brain's "amygdala" is a small almond-sized and shaped structure. Many people feel that when their general Self-Esteem is at risk they should stick to what they know and do relatively well. Those people are more vulnerable when challenged by changing situations. However, persons with higher levels of general Self-Esteem are less vulnerable to what others think as they accept the challenges of changing situations.

The little status boosts we give ourselves may raise our Self-Esteem temporarily but have little or no effect on a relatively low baseline of Self-Esteem or a low "happiness setpoint." The effective way to raise your Self-Esteem is to use "assertiveness" skills in order to attack the fears that inhibit you. To be successful, you should engage in goals and plans where you think your Self-Esteem may be at risk.

Of course, this is easier said than done, but should be done based on the "brainpower science facts," since it is the only rational action that can guarantee predictable results. This view is based on the idea that some people will give up trying after a series of defeats, while others will accept their lowly position in the social hierarchy of their groups, because their Self-Esteem dropped possibly due to a "biological process" that helps humans mediate their fight for social status or social esteem and worthiness.

However, others will continue to challenge their social hierarchies that create "status tension" in their lives. This may be due to the odd way your drive for status and your baseline level of Self-Esteem seem to work together in an intriguingly paradoxical way as Richard L. Bednar explained in the book Self-Esteem Paradoxes and Innovations.

They can either raise or lower your baseline "Self-Esteem" over long periods of time, or they can sometimes achieve only temporary results.

Until we know more, you need to work with the brain you have now. Your limbic components produce your "limbic function" or the strong emotions associated with the "status imperative," which causes you to want to be superior --- or not be defeated! Since you are fortunate enough to have a "cerebral cortex" that is capable of observing any irrational drives or reactive emotions caused by your brain's limbic region, you can learn to control the treacherous "status imperative" by repressing or controlling its impulses when they are inappropriate and ultimately would be damaging to you and others around you.

It is only by acknowledging their existence that you can begin to transcend the strong emotions, as well as your virtual realities which contain your fears and anxieties. [Weiner's text has been adapted to summarize these main points of his book, Reality Check, starting on page 229.]

Understanding the recent discoveries by brain scientists can transform your existence and give you the solid hope that you can achieve authentic happiness and lasting satisfaction. This information can help you change and grow no matter what kinds of problems you have had in the past or what kinds of challenges you face in the future. You will be able to experience a new kind of freedom of choice that will enable you to achieve your goals according to a predictable schedule of enjoyable events in your life.

The importance of "smart goal-setting" is explained at the following link:

Smart Goal Setting

=== If you begin to take full responsibility for your goals and plans, without the need to defer to some greater power, you will be giving yourself legitimate pride in your natural bodily resources, which have evolved to near perfection during the past few hundred thousand years of biological evolution. More particularly, the past 30,000 years of civilized institutional living groups have given us a long track record with which to determine the best personal and civic values for making the future better for humans and the rest of nature on planet Earth. Some scientists now claim that there is evidence that truly "human" beings began their lives as long ago as 100,000 years!

It has taken about 65 million years, since all the dinosaurs died out in their big profile form due to the collision of a giant asteroid with Earth, to arrive at the present magnificent diversity of smaller animal and plant life forms (compared to the giant dinosaurs) that have survived until now on Earth. If the big dinosaurs had not all died off way back then, we human beings may not have been able to develop as we have into the dominate life form on the water planet Earth.

After many millions of years of further evolution, the smaller mammals and reptiles that survived the devastating cataclysmic collision, including the birds which may have been a direct offshoot of the big dinosaurs, eventually produced us human beings. It is estimated that as few as one-third or as many as one-half of all the other smaller animals and plants, which were alive before the great dinosaur extinction, survived the collision and continued to evolve.

Nevertheless, the dazzling diversity of animal and plant life which inhabit our unique little "blue planet" with us now, have changed or "evolved" over many millions of years with the help of the vast oceans that cover most of our Earth:

Book Source:
The Blue Planet --- Seas of Life

The different forms of life on Earth have been influenced by the different kinds of oceans or seas that make up our unique "water planet." After focusing on the different kinds of ocean life supported by the different characteristics of the oceans on our planet, you can realize that the diversity of animal and plant life on Earth is truly dazzling and awe-inspiring.

There are different animals and plants at the edges or borders of the oceans, different ones in tropical seas and different ones in temperate seas as well as different animals and plants in the frozen seas, the open seas, and the deepest seas. Your awareness of the spectacular nature of the life forms on Earth can become a truly awesome fact in your awareness of having evolved with your amazing human brain. Your brain or undivided "mind-with-body," makes YOU possible.

Regardless of what your social class status is, you can achieve authentic happiness and true satisfaction by realizing that the amount of your authentic happiness and lasting satisfaction depends on the amount of generosity you have toward others. It is the same idea as that expressed in the Beatles' famous song lyrics: "The love you get is equal to the love you give."

By using sound thinking and memory skills, you will be able to evaluate your goals and your plans in a balanced way according to your own personal values which determine your predictable motivational needs. This factual idea makes it possible for you to consciously create more meaning in your lifetime by taking successively bolder steps toward accomplishing your most important goals even when challenged by self-destructive cultural values.

You are challenged every day by the constant assault on your consciousness by advertisements that associate the idea of instant pleasure with shopping. The global economy entices you to choose instant gratification by purchasing products and services instead of basing your decisions on your core personal values and assumptions. Continuous education or lifelong learning is essential for your personal survival and economic success now and especially in the future.

The "mass media-oriented" consumerism culture of the global economy attempts to influence you to ignore your own true needs related to the development of your SELF. Nevertheless, you can create the power to perform at your best against the cultural forces that tempt you to ignore your own basic human needs. Your authentic happiness and lasting satisfaction can be based on realistic scientific expectations about your future opportunities and possibilities with an attitude of gratitude for this verifiable objective practical knowledge about yourself.

The parts of your brain tissue that are responsible for your ability to think are brain cells called "neurons." Neurons are connected in "neuronal networks." Your neurons contain "dendrites" that depend upon your unique experiences and relationships to grow and create new neuronal networks. Also, the chemical switches that send signals up and down your nervous system and inside your brain are called "synapses".

If you did not have a healthy brain with a programmable mind, you would never be able to think about your own happiness or anyone else's happiness. The profound truth in this empirically based assumption is that you would never be aware of your SELF as a separate individual person without having a fully functioning "healthy" brain and nervous system. Also you would not be able to read this sentence.

Without the ability to empower yourself by using your amazing brain to define and explain your SELF to yourself, you would not be able to think and feel or be conscious of being YOU!

Remember the devastation that Alzheimer's Disease causes people when their brain tissues become damaged with sticky plaque. They lose their ability to access their memories and, therefore, lose their awareness of time. Knowing this fact can influence you to want to know more about how you can maintain or improve your brain health now.

As you consciously think about the new meanings that the "brainpower science facts" compel you to experience, the new neuron connections in your brain and nervous system will give you the power to change your values. your Self-Creation, your Self-Esteem, and your Self-Actualization potentials by adding new memories to your consciousness of your SELF. Together, your new brainpower knowledge will result in a true holistic synergy of "mindfullness" that you can experience as Self-Liberation.

How to Change Your Brain's Response to Anger, Fear, Pain, & Desire

When you consciously combine the three phenomenal potentials, your newly empowered SELF will experience new opportunities and possibilities. As long as some of your "unconscious brainpower" is used to make sure that your heart beat is strong enough to pump fresh blood to your brain, and your breathing is strong enough to provide new oxygen to enrich your blood supply every moment, your "mind-with-body" will benefit greatly.

There is no need anymore for any "religious dualism" that has traditionally separated your MIND from your BODY when you explain the great philosophical issues to yourself and your friends. Self-Esteem is simply defined as having "good feelings" about your SELF. Even though your Self-Esteem is your "subjective" measure of your own self-worth, it is essential for you to keep it positive!

When you perceive your Self-Esteem as being "high," then your positive attitude about yourself will give you the courage to learn and choose among competing alternative ethical values or behaviors depending upon the consequences you can expect from your perceptions of reality. Simply stated, you need to use your new brain awareness vocabulary and continuously develop your memory so you can think accurately and create your own personal unique identity and lifestyle. That can be your chief purpose in life, if you choose to make it so. Because you can think for yourself and change your feelings, you can reach your greatest human potential.

Such an informed or educated understanding can be created by your own thought processes when you are aware of rational humanistic ethical alternative values. Your thought processes are possible only because of our complex multicultural English language as clearly explained in the following book:

Book Source: Our Marvelous Native Tongue ---
The Life and Times of the English Language

As important as the existence of our marvelous English language is for doing critical thinking, it is equally important to understand the serious conflicts between scientific and religious ideas throughout Europe and the American continents after the European Middle Ages due to the invention of the printing press with its moveable type. The Gutenberg Press quickly reproduced translations of the Christian Holy Bible and other books in the beginning of the European Renaissance. That increased communication among cities and countries helped speed up change and create a common culture of ideas that led to the European Reformation and the emerging of modern science out of the extensive experimentation with alchemy, which is generally referred to as The Enlightenment in Great Britain and Europe during the 16th and 17th centuries and later in America, especially during the 18th century.

The next two links emphasize the revolutionary changes made in Great Britain and Europe during the Reformation and Enlightenment:

The Untold Story of the British Enlightenment.

Book Source: Man Masters Nature --- 25 Centuries of Science

The following statements, which outline the impact of the Gutenberg Press on human civilization, were adapted from a Writer's Almanac daily e-mail message on the Internet by Garrison Keillor:

One of the shining examples of human creativity and invention is the Gutenberg Press, which on September 30, 1452, produced the first section of the Gutenberg Bible in Mainz, Germany. It was the first book ever printed with movable type. The revolutionary effect of Gutenberg's idea of movable type was the ability to print an infinite number of pages from a small number of letter blocks simply by rearranging them.

At that time all existing books were written or copied by hand. In order to be as efficient as possible, monastery scribes had developed a way of writing with pen and ink that was full of abbreviations. Also they wrote words in a dense cursive script with very little space between letters and words on each page.

It was Gutenberg's genius to imagine an entirely different way of writing, in which all of the individual letters would be distinct from each other, rather than connected. That way, he could produce individual blocks with letters on them. He fitted these letter blocks into a frame, coated them with an ink made of linseed oil and soot, and then used an adapted wine press to print text onto paper.

Within about 30 years there were print shops all over the European continent using Gutenberg's process of printing. It is estimated that more books were produced in the 50 years after Gutenberg's invention than scribes had been able to produce in the 1,000 years before the Gutenberg press was invented.

Just like that phenomenal change in human society, which was made possible by the invention of the printing press, when large numbers of people could quickly learn new ideas because of the invention of moveable type, now due to the invention of the Internet, far more people can learn better ideas faster than ever before. New ideas can be rapidly published or reproduced and distributed globally to millions and even billions of people instantly via the Internet.

You can feel better today and experience a better future by choosing to maximize your brainpower and take responsibility for controlling your life better right now.

=== The undeniable fact is that your mind is programmable due to its NEUROPLASTICITY.

Lesson one of this website is to learn the ramifications of the fact that your brain is adaptable because of its "neuroplasticity." By purposefully using "brain-related" words to describe your SELF, you will be using the best thinking strategies ever created.

Time Magazine:
How the Brain Rewires Itself

The above citations indicate that the parts of your brain tissue that make the process of thinking possible are your brain cells, which are called "neurons." Your neurons contain "dendrites," which can grow like roots on a tree, if you make the right choices to help them grow. New dendrite connections make new neuronal networks whenever you have new experiences or have new ideas or see new relationships.

Your neurons are located in special regions of your brain and are connected by neuron networks. The chemical switches that send signals around your brain and up and down your nervous system are called synapses. The new connections among brain cells created by learning activities start with the "assemblies" of brain tissue "jello" at the ends of some of the trillions of dendrites in your brain.

The above "brainpower science facts" are essential for you to start thinking about the power of the new science-based knowledge that demonstrates how your brain works and how your thoughts and feelings can be changed by you.

If you are willing to learn, you can understand the essential factual scientific ideas necessary to think for yourself and delete false memories that can obstruct your creativity.

The Mysterious Underpinnings of Emotional Life

During your journey of Self-Liberation, your new perspective will help you create a positive attitude toward the complexity of your brain. It will also help you take advantage of your freedom of choice, which your amazing programmable brain makes possible when you have a positive attitude about life. By increasing your brainpower, you will have more power to help others improve their lives. You can be a shining example for them to share in the empirical values and assumptions that make life meaningful in the 21st century.

One of the main assumptions of this website, therefore, is that you need a liberating "VISION" that will overcome the "faith-based" ancient traditional religious doctrines of the past, as well as some scientific dogmas that still operate to confuse us, so you can clear your mind to reveal the wonderful possibilities and opportunities ahead in your future. You can do this, if you are willing to experience "cognitive restructuring."

Such a comprehensive rational vision is described by John Vasconcellos, a successful long-time liberal California legislator, in his historic comprehensive report that described what he saw and learned after doing exhaustive research into the role of high Self-Esteem in satisfying the vital needs of children and adults in California:

"The title of this book draws attention to the significance of vision. Vision is defined as a way of looking at everything, a way of seeing. It is through the vision you have of your SELF and your world, that you make sense of your life and times, and choose how you will behave in various circumstances."

Book Source: A Liberating Vision

This grand "vision" of the need to increase the positive Self-Esteem of all children as well as adults requires their minds be liberated from old mindsets. This assumption indicates the active character of vision. The practical political policy changes recommended in the book are intended to cause people to confront their own personal belief systems and change their attitudes about life. This rational humanistic ethical viewpoint can inspire you to evaluate your own assumptions about your SELF, your human nature and your potential in the future.

When your imagination or vision is combined with positive Self-Esteem, which involves an attitude of gratitude about your SELF and your relationships with others, you will be able to experience the awesome power of being in control of your own life and relationships. It is your personal responsibility to liberate your SELF by learning the new "brainpower science facts".

The profound purpose of your unique life is to simply have a purpose that you choose for yourself. What are you willing to do to achieve authentic happiness for yourself and lasting satisfaction in all your relationships? You do not need expensive advice from lawyers who represent special political interests or priests who represent the unscientific ideas of ancient religious institutions when you seek answers to the following question:

What price are you willing to pay
for achievable and verifiable happiness?

Since your awareness of your SELF can now be based upon genuine factual ideas about how positive "Self-Esteem" can increase your motivation to improve yourself by self-directed learning about your unique Brainpower Mindset, it is more likely that you will find it easier to be more successful in whatever you choose to do in the future. The famous Los Angeles writer and psychotherapist, Nathaniel Branden, who was once a companion of Ayn Rand, has written about the importance of understanding the role of positive Self-Esteem in determining the meaning of human existence:

In addition, the powerful self-directed "biblio-therapy" process advocated by David D. Burns can help you discover the most important aspects of modern science that you can use on your quest for happiness and success. Burns is the great cognitive behavior therapist and writer of the books summarized at the following three links:

Book Source: Ten Days to Self-Esteem

Book Source: When Panic Attacks

Book Source: Feeling Good ---
the New Mood Therapy

The following paraphrased quotes were taken from the book, Ten Days to Self-Esteem, which provides a good introduction to self-help counseling issues related to achieving happiness. You would be applying the idea of biblio-therapy if you read that book or any other psychology text with the purpose of systematically thinking about your problems and plans. Asking questions in an open-minded way is consistent with the findings of the new brain research.

    1) Step One of the "Ten Steps" recommended for achieving true happiness is based on the foundation of high "Self-Esteem:"

The price of happiness is your willingness to actively help your SELF understand your real potential, instead of continuing to be a passive victim of unrealistic expectations of perfectionism and/or self-imposed negative attitudes. (p17-36)

The Three Essential Goals for Step One are:

[Goal 1] You can learn how to measure your many moods as well as your satisfaction in your relationships with others using three tests or "self-assessment tools" on a weekly basis.

[Goal 2] You can identify your PERSONAL GOALS for this experiment of self-discovery. You can choose to answer the following questions:

      (1) What do you hope to learn and accomplish as you read this book?

If you had a "magic wand" with which to solve all your problems ---

      (2) How would things change in your life?

      (3) Would you like to be happier and more optimistic?

      (4) Would you like to enjoy greater self-confidence and a positive self-image?

      (5) What is on your "wish list" of positive changes in your life?

[Goal 3] You can learn about the true price of HAPPINESS, which is your willingness to help your "SELF" overcome learned helplessness and negative attitudes about your Self-Esteem or worth as a person.

You can choose to decide whether you are willing to pay the price of happiness!

The second book by David D. Burns, When Panic Attacks, is his latest attempt to prove that most panic attacks and anxiety can be overcome by proper study. By using the best cognitive therapy techniques, such as bibliotherapy, anxieties can be treated with this new sophisticated drug-free therapy.

The third book, Feeling Good, helped popularize cognitive behavior therapy for the intelligent readers in the 1980s. The format and vocabulary were targeted for counselors, but the book, with its rational humanistic ethical values and case study examples, has been a persuasive source of clear information for more than 20 years. Even without the advantage of recent brain research about the way thoughts and feelings interact in human brains, the books by Burns provide a thought provoking practical context for helping people control their own feelings by organizing and anchoring their thoughts around solid values, instead of "defenses" or distorted beliefs about reality.

Book Source: I Need Your Love, is That True?

The reality and truth is that you can create your own "turnarounds" by applying reason and doing critical thinking about your feelings and values! Just use this model to start your own creative "turnaround" thinking process.

Just as the big environmental problem called "global warming" is a wake up notice for all responsible science-based thinkers around the world, the new "brainpower science facts" are another wake up notice for all rational humanistic ethical citizens to change the way they think about their social and political values and relationships. In order for people to control the exploding human population growth and preserve the splendid diversity of animals and plants on our planet, who depend upon unpolluted water and air, political values must be negotiated among the countries of the world.

The arguments necessary to educate millions of citizens so they will vote to control "global warming," for example, have been brilliantly described by Al Gore, the former vice-president of the United States, in his book that is summarized at the next link:

Book Source: An Inconvenient Truth

In Gore's book and DVD, the famous American writer Mark Twain is quoted as saying:

"It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble,
it's what you know for sure that just ain't so!"
(An Inconvenient Truth, p25)

When you choose to use the empowering intellectual resources organized around the idea of the Brainpower Mindset on this website, you will have the essential information you need to understand and cope with the continuous changes of modern life in a reliable historical context. The many rational humanistic ethical intellectual resources referred to on this website can be a significant gateway for you on your lifelong journey of Self-Liberation.

You have the power to understand how your brain really works and to accept your own mortality within the rational context of the "natural selection" explanation of "evolutionary biology" and the DNA explanation of modern genetics. From a scientific perspective, all socially learned unhealthy self-defeating human behavior is directly related to the lack of a science education or irresponsible parenting, such as poor training and role modeling, or immature childish religious beliefs, or clinical brain damage.

This website organizes information that can help you overcome self-destructive stupid behavior that causes mistaken thoughts and actions, which can involve unethical, immoral, and criminal behavior patterns:

The good news from science is that since your self-imposed limitations regarding your freedom of choice were all learned, they can be unlearned! The good news is that you can change any "self-destructive" negative attitudes and behavior. They can be unlearned by consciously replacing the negative memories with new accurate healthy science-based ideas that will become strong memories at the microscopic level of your neuronal networks.

Once you have tested the truthfulness of your old childhood ideas about reality, such the existence of Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy and other imaginary "super-hero" gods, in comparison to the new science-based ideas you can now understand as an adult with an inquiring mind, you can use your own brainpower to measure the consistency and authenticity of your core values and absolute assumptions.

3.2. HOW THE BRAINPOWER MINDSET CAN IMPROVE YOUR SELF-CONTROL AND INCREASE YOUR CREATIVITY

Your new healthy memories, grounded in your new Brainpower Mindset ideas can liberate you to feel free to achieve new goals since you will be able to make better plans based on your emerging new rational humanistic ethical values. They emphasize Self-Control rather than reliance on luck or unplanned accidental happenings or institutional rituals or imaginary mysterious spiritual forces and they explain how you are either happy or sad because of the choices you make. To learn more about how you can overcome cultural barriers to Self-Control and use your own brainpower to invent your own special way of creating a meaningful future, you can choose explore how Einstein rebelled against the habits of thinking of his time to live a productive creative life.

Einstein's life as a "creative rebel" is a good example for everyone to follow. His life reveals that the process of individual CREATIVITY was more important than the conventional focus on his academic intelligence and his legendary mathematical abilities, which most children are usually taught in school before they are free to think for themselves. This will expand your awareness of yourself to include the concepts of "emotional intelligence" and "social intelligence " in the context of empathy or concern for others.

=====11-8-07===== Before you explore the wonderful world of science from the perspective of the your own brainpower, it is important to discover your own "genius potential" so you won't lose track of your own significance in the vast complexity of the universe and scientific explanations of its meaning. The details of Einstein's life, as revealed in his personal letters, demonstrate the greatness of Einstein's rational humanistic ethical approach to the political and ethical issues raised by the impact of modern science on society.

Just as Einstein's famous equation --- "E = MC squared" --- symbolizes one of his main scientific accomplishments, the words in his letters to other people, including other scientists and political leaders and even children, reveal a compassionate ethical person who had the courage to speak out on the most important issues of life and death in the 20th century:

The main ideas of science can be encapsulated in "scientific slogans," which consist of a few words or phrases. If you can't think of the most important scientific advances in human history, then you have not grasped the essence of them, which frankly means that you are illiterate or ignorant of them scientifically speaking.

The following eight most important "encapsulating scientific slogans" derived from the past 500 years and proven beyond any doubt during the past 100 years of the history of science include the following great ideas that are in the book, Cosmic Landscape:

THE EIGHT MOST IMPORTANT SCIENTIFIC SLOGANS

    (1) SPACE AND TIME ARE ABSOLUTE --- from Newtonian Mechanics

    (2) SPACE AND TIME ARE RELATIVE --- from Einstein and Special Relativity

    (3) THE SPEED OF LIGHT IS AN ABSOLUTE CONSTANT --- from Einstein and Special Relativity

    (4) THE EQUIVALENCE PRINCIPLE = Gravity is indistinguishable from acceleration --- from Einstein and General Relativity

    (5) THE HEISENBERG UNCERTAINTY PRINCIPLE = position and velocity cannot be simultaneously determined --- from Quantum Mechanics

    (6) THE BIG BANG --- from cosmology

    (7) SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST, NATURAL SELECTION, THE SELFISH GENE --- from Darwin's Natural Selection and Evolutionary Theory

    (8) A LANDSCAPE OF POSSIBILITIES POPULATED BY A MEGAVERSE OF ACTUALITIES --- This is the grand organizing principle of both biology and cosmology
Traces of human artifacts date back to more than 30,000 years of human evolution but the ones that can help us best explain our own uniqueness can be appreciated from a time span of about 15,000 years rather than the biblical time span of 2,000-4,000 years ago. Scientific knowledge from the past 300 to 400 years, and especially the last 100 years, has produced the unprecedented scientific and technologic progress of the past century. The most important secrets of the human brain have just been revealed and verified to brain scientists only during the past 10-15 years and especially the past year.

The scientific factual ideas about human and animal and plant evolution in all its magnificent diversity and sophistication provide a rich historical record of the mental changes that accompanied the vast human changes based on the ingenuity of brainpower during the past 30,000 years of human civilization and especially the last 500 years of major scientific advances in human history. Evolutionary biology has demonstrated the fact that human beings represent a single evolutionary family with variant cultures but shared biological capabilities and motivations.

Evolutionary biology has become absolutely necessary for human existence in the future:

In the 150 years since Darwin published his idea of evolution and the process of "natural selection", evolutionary biology has proven as essential as it is controversial. It is a critical concept for answering questions about everything from the genetic code and the structure of cells to the reproduction, development, and migration of animal and plant life.

Today evolutionary biology is much more than an explanatory concept since it is indispensable to the modern world. Evolution applies when we domesticate wild species for agriculture or companionship, or when we manage our exposure to pathogens, or prevent and control epidemics, or when we foster the diversity of species and safeguard the functioning of ecosystems, or when DNA is used in courts to pursue justice within the legal system, or the idea of evolution is used to promote further scientific discovery through education and academic research.

The following two links identify creative approaches to the recent developments in the scientific understanding of the influence of evolution, including the elegant idea of the process of "natural selection" which Darwin first developed to explain the changes in animal and plant evolution, and DNA, which is essential in our understanding of the way our amazing brains actually work:

Where the Known Meets the Unknown

Book Source: The Elegant Universe

A good definition of the distinct characteristics of the objective thinking process of science is on the free online Wikipedia Encyclopedia:

In the broadest sense, the word science refers to any system of knowledge attained by empirically verifiable means. In a more restricted sense, "science" refers to a system of acquiring knowledge based on empiricism, experimentation, and methodological naturalism, as well as to the organized body of knowledge humans have gained by such research.

Scientists maintain that scientific investigation must adhere to the scientific method, a process for properly developing and evaluating natural explanations for observable phenomena based on empirical study and independent verification. Typically, therefore, science rejects supernatural explanations, arguments from authority, and biased observational studies. (www.wikipedia.com)

The primary core value that all the empirical findings center around is the distinction between the rational SELF, as described on this website, which is you, and the irrational abstract word "soul." That word "soul" was described in ancient literature to be a real thing that represented the essence or spirit of an individual person that could survive the death of that person's body.

However, since scientific research has developed a clear objective understanding of what is genuinely real in nature, and also, inversely, what is purely imaginary regarding human nature and the human spirit, the word "soul" is now scientifically known to be a "literary metaphor" or language trick. The word now indicates an imaginary spiritual entity that does not actually exist in scientific fact.

Today, the word "soul" is like the words Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, Mickey Mouse, and Donald Duck. They represent or connote make-believe characters that represent real human emotions. Billions of people for thousands of years have never been able to demonstrate in any empirical scientific way the alleged "spiritual characteristics" of a mystical soul that can inhabit a human body until that body dies and then mysteriously live on without its body. There is no such thing as a disembodied soul or spirit outside of sacred religious literature and religious doctrines that must be taught through rigorous repetitious pedagogical methods from infancy through adolescents in a rigid formula by religious authorities.

This is a crucial assumption at the beginning of the quest for Self-Liberation, since it was only a few hundred years ago that religious authorities believed and taught that our wonderful sun revolved around our unique planet Earth. That is now known to be a false wrongheaded assumption that was inculcated into the brains of believers long after there was empirical scientific evidence that the Earth was really revolving around the Sun! More details about the Copernican revolution will be presented later on this website. Also, Newton's ideas about the importance of scientific explanations concerning gravity and other reliable natural patterns on earth and in the universe have been fiercely contested by various church authorities during the past few hundred years.

Therefore, simply knowing the clearly defined difference between the words "SELF" and "soul" can be the starting point and the tipping point in your beginning to feel the freedom of choice that can come from taking personal responsibility for your behavior and actions, without the need to create an imaginary super-hero "god" or "goddess" to bring meaning into your personal life. Nobody is born with the need for a "god" or "goddess" to fill his or her life with motivation and meaning in order to achieve a good life.

Now you can create realistic "goals" (not imaginary "gods" or "goddesses") and make realistic "plans" (not confusing "prayers") in order to achieve a successful happy rational humanistic ethical future for yourself!

Today's brain scientists are discovering phenomenal new facts about how our human brains work. They are following in the empirical footsteps of Galileo and Newton and Darwin and Einstein, and thousands of other researchers. Many of them will be identified and celebrated on this website. They all had the courage to contribute to the "scientific way" of thinking by overcoming ignorance as well as debunking many superstitious ideas.

Some of the scientists published and promoted the results of their scientific experimentation, even when their discoveries and inventions and conclusions were not in agreement with the political and religious values or orthodoxies of their times. Their willingness to risk their lives and reputations and legacies for the benefit of all mankind is the supreme gift they gave all of us.

==============11-8=07=========== 3.3. HOW YOU CAN USE YOUR BRAINPOWER TO HELP SAVE OUR PLANET

Educated enlightened people must get organized quickly to focus on specific practical rational solutions to global problems. The following five links challenge readers and leaders to develop new rational humanistic ethical values and vocabularies to implement new solutions to solve problems globally. The rational humanistic ethical values or viewpoint or moral perspective that has been developing for hundreds of years can now be based solidly on the new empirical brain research.

The research findings challenge you ---and all other educated human beings on Earth --- to be responsible for your relationships, ethical values, and the ideas they are based on:

Book Source: A Brief History of the Mind

Book Source: Moral Minds

Book Source: The Moral Mind

You can focus on whatever motivates you to achieve your new goals and plans for the future. By systematically analyzing your own inner dialogue, or Self-Talk, you will be able to create your own "goals" and control your own "action plans" for a happy and satisfying lifetime of passionate living with your new scientific "reason-based" brainpower.

As a citizen of the United States of America, or any other nation-state with a democratic or transitional benevolent dictatorship, you have a political right to actually experience life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness because of the legal protections guaranteed by your constitutional laws. Your political rights or legal protections are based upon your healthy brain, with its immense brainpower, and the fact that millions of other people share the same political values, and moral views, and personal ethical values.

In the United States, we have the most respect for diversity and individual human rights or intellectual freedoms in the known universe because we have the best science and technology and constitutional laws. Our Constitution, which was created during our revolution of 1776 and defended by the best educated men and women who were either born in our country or who emigrated to the United States of America because of the hope of living in a freer country with more opportunities, protect our human rights and civil rights. Many brave individuals had to fight and in many cases died to create and sustain the civil rights laws that are the basis of our personal and economic freedoms. Our hard won United States Constitution and U. S. Bill of Rights include intellectual rights and property rights that apply to all U. S. citizens and corporate entities and institutions.

Fortunately, increasing numbers of people are using critical thinking skills to think through social and political issues in a systematic way that gives them the true scientific knowledge as well as the confidence to understand all the spellbinding ramifications of evolution and natural selection. They have discovered factual ideas about the universe and human nature and history that give them true information about their own amazing adaptive brains and how they can maximize their own brainpower.

The core values and assumptions of the new brain science are based on all the great scientific advances of the past:

Book Source: Twelve Greeks and Romans ---
Who Changed the World

Because of the thousands of courageous scientists and thinkers and writers who have perfected the "scientific method" and the profession of science, since Aristotle's time around 600 B.C.E. (B.C.E. = Before the Christian Era), we now know in the 21st Century --- more than 2,000 years after the Christian Era started --- that when we look up and see the blue sky during the daytime or see the bright stars and planets shining in the black sky at night, we are really seeing an outer space that is a deadly place.

For a comprehensive chronological perspective about the vast history of scientific achievements, see the following information organized by Isacc Asimov, who was one the greatest humanist writers of all time, writing both fiction and non-fiction books about science and history:

Book Source: Asimov's Biographical Encyclopedia:
Chronological History of Science

Book Source: Asimov's Own Biography, 2nd Part:
In Joy Still Felt

Many of Asimov's detailed analyses of scientific breakthroughs have been compiled in another authoritative reference book:

Book Source: Milestones in Science and Technology

The fabulous achievements of science and technology, especially during the past few centuries as outlined above biographical encyclopedia and index, have provided our generation with the true answers to most of the ultimate questions concerning human destiny. In addition, Asimov's own massive biography and dozens of books about the history of science and scientific ideas have popularized essential scientific discoveries and inventions that have defined contemporary life.

Now we need to LEARN new symbols and metaphors to express our new awareness about human nature to all reasonable adults and children in all countries and cultures. We must all learn how to work together to protect and sustain our natural environment by ourselves without the help of imaginary superhuman or supernatural powers. Historically, many researchers since the Middle Ages, who knew some of the scientific truths about the real causes of human behavior, because of their experiments and logical "critical thinking" skills and strategies, faced persecution from political tyrants and religious bigots. Unfortunately, they were usually burned at the stake or tortured or put in prison by intolerant bigots who could not understand the importance of their new ideas about the nature of reality.

The lives of the social reformers who based their criticisms on scientific "facts" and "theories" were cut short for their counter-cultural and counter-intuitive ideas by national political and military leaders. They gained dictatorial power and in many instances they ruled by the principle of "Divine Right" for centuries. They used terror to control their "subjects," who were both literally and figuratively the "serfs" and "slaves" and "indentured servants" of the upper class rich people who had their own brands of cultural prejudices and superstitious religious ideas.

They were our tragic ancestors who had to suffer through extreme indignities and even torture and slaughter before a large enough number of humans beings began to understand the importance of reason and science and law in order to conduct business more efficiently and effectively. It has taken several hundred years and 20 to 30 generations to achieve our own modern enlightened understanding of the importance of affirming democratic values and solving social and political problems by voting and negotiating instead of shooting at each other in duels and ambushes!

The Top Ten Greatest Pictures of the Hubble Space Telescope ---

The pictures of deep space and our moon were taken by the Hubble Space Telescope imaging camera during the past 16 years:

These ten pictures are the most amazing space photographs in the universe! For a while it looked as if the whole mission would end in embarrassing failure. After it was launched in 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope, a $1.5 billion orbiting observatory, was found to have a glitch in its giant lens - rendering Earth's first orbital observatory short-sighted. But after an audacious Shuttle repair mission, when Hubble was fixed with what is effectively a pair of eyeglasses to correct its sight, the telescope has returned some of the most stunning images ever captured by science.

Now astronomers have just voted for the best pictures taken by the Hubble telescope since it went into orbit 16 years ago. The pictures illustrate that our universe is not only deeply strange, but also almost impossibly beautiful.

Hubble, which is about the size of a bus, has been sending pictures and data back to scientists since it began operating 370 miles up. It transmits about 120 gigabytes of information every week. That's equal to about 3,600 feet of books on a shelf. By putting a telescope into space, astronomers can get views of distant objects without having to look through Earth's thick and soupy atmosphere. From hundreds of miles above the clouds and weather, Hubble can provide pictures of unparallelled clarity and sharpness.

Over its life, Hubble has been pointed at objects as diverse as the Moon and the most distant galaxies, to help scientists better understand the wonders of the known universe. Hubble is an old machine and, until recently, glitches in its various mechanisms seemed to have doomed the telescope. But now NASA has announced a $900 million repair mission in the next couple of years to keep it flying. When the repairs have been carried out, it is hoped that Hubble will continue to give many more years of service and, perhaps, even return images superior to those seen at this website.

Henry Lambright, science and technology professor at Syracuse University, New York, says: "The beautiful pictures that we see Hubble produce are gripping to everyone who looks at them. A list of the "top ten" pictures taken by Hubble during its 16 years of orbiting Earth are available at:

Our Moon's Crucial Role as Earth's Wobble Stabolizer

Almost all people who lived in previous generations regarded the stars and planets in the sky as real places, and many people thought that "heaven" or the sky was the place where they would go after they died. This false assumption still has a major impact on world affairs. The religious and social differences and conflicts among various warring countries now, such as between the Christians in the United States and Islamic true believers in Iraq, as well as the Jews in Israel and Islamic true believers in Lebanon, illustrate the harm that can be done by regarding dying for a religious cause more important than living for personal and social reasons.

Historically, when most men and women looked up at the sky, they hoped that it would be a good place to spend eternity and to continue their individual conscious lives in the presence of a god or goddess or many gods and goddesses. However, this wish for eternal life in the sky turns out to be an impossibility, since outer space is too cold to support human life and lacks oxygen and other essential chemicals required to keep our brains and bodies alive.

Your Life on Planet Earth depends on Sunshine --- In brief, since our planet earth is the only safe and secure place for human life in the universe, we need to understand how to live on it properly. Your Life on Planet Earth depends on Sunshine

You can immerse yourself in the well known factual idea that our sun provides the essential sunshine energy that is the ultimate cause of all life forms on our precious "little blue planet" called Earth. This website is dedicated to the purpose of explaining how all the essential aspects of our "sunshine-powered" lives have evolved over the past three and a half to five millions of years. This includes all the hundreds of human cultures and the magnificent diverse life forms in nature that have developed during the past 30,000 to 50,000 years of the existence of human cultures and pre-human beings. It is essential to understand the connections that exist between we humans and Nature both on the surface of Earth and in the upper atmosphere.

If you choose to organize your life around the true factual scientific ideas about how your brain works, and how you exist with others in a complex universe, you can keep your brain healthier and become more happy and satisfied. You can use the reliability and power of this new brainpower knowledge, which is based on modern psychological concepts of cognitive behavior training or therapy, to gain Self-Control instead of merely adjusting to social status quo or cultural norms. Chronic fear or anger or negativity or addictions can cripple your perception of your SELF and your true potential as a phenomenal person able to cope with a variety of influences in a complex social environment that is your "culture." Your "personality" differs from your SELF in that it is your perception of yourself from the viewpoint of your culture or the many social relationships that you have developed since you were born, including your family, friends, teachers, business mentors, or favorite celebrities. Bluntly, your SELF is your perception of your "mind-body" by you alone.

Only you can liberate your SELF or forfeit the opportunity by letting our global "consumerism culture" determine your goals and values based upon its assumptions of what your goals and values should be. Do you make personal "choices" or do you have "duties" to do things other people want you to do?

This website provides you with the opportunity and possibility to challenge your faulty thinking habits and ignorance, if you have any. And it provides you with the motivation necessary to master the skills you need to modify your habits. By seeing the world with fresh new insights into your ability to expand your vision and create better results during the rest of your life, you can gain immense motivation to accomplish any reasonable goal or task.

Book Source: The Thinker's Way --- Eight Steps to a Richer Life

The legendary teacher of critical thinking skills, John Chaffee, described in his book, The Thinker's Way, one of the fundamental assumptions of this website. He assumes and claims that you can achieve the greatest amount of authentic happiness and lasting satisfaction by understanding your SELF and your "brainpower" in a scientific and rational humanistic ethical context using practical critical thinking skills that can be learned easily. The skills involve eight steps in order to think critically, live creatively and choose freely:

        STEP 1 --- Think critically

        STEP 2 --- Live creatively

        STEP 3 --- Choose freely

STEP 4 --- Solve problems effectively

        STEP 5 --- Communicate effectively

STEP 6 --- Analyze complex issues

STEP 7 --- Develop enlightened values

STEP 8 --- Think through relationships

The most important assumptions in the book are summarized in the following excerpt:

"Promoting human happiness and its corollary, diminishing human suffering, have been goals of most ethical systems throughout the ages. Most people are perfectly willing to pursue their own happiness. That is the way we are genetically programmed and taught as well."

"However, you do not receive social recognition for pursuing solely your own interests. Social recognition is typically earned by devoting your time and resources to enhancing the happiness of others, sometimes at the expense of your own interests. This moral principle is founded on the principle of "perspective-taking," which involves the awareness that for most important ethical issues and problems in our lives, one single viewpoint is simply not adequate to give a full and satisfactory understanding of them."

"To increase and deepen your knowledge, you must seek other perspectives on the situations you are trying to understand. You can sometimes accomplish this by using your imagination to visualize other viewpoints. To benefit most from this alternative visualization, you must understand the reasons that support the alternate viewpoints."

"Identifying with another person's situation can generate the desire to assist the person that could just as easily have been you. This moral concept is the wellspring of charitable acts toward others. It is relevant in our ordinary dealings with others since it makes sense to promote the happiness of others through your words and actions. Being friendly, generous, supportive, understanding, sympathetic, and helpful to others enhances the lives of others, usually at a minimal cost to yourself.

What this means very bluntly is that you must learn to understand your SELF in terms of modern science. Chaffee claims that we need to expand the concept of pleasure to include the more general idea of human happiness. He believes that it makes sense for us to promote an authentic human happiness that will include all essential human activities necessary to secure good shelter, food, health care, education, employment opportunities, and civil rights as we all seek personal fulfillment.

When you view human happiness within this larger complete authentic framework, you will have a better understanding of the challenges that face everyone who seeks to live a socially good ethical life. In short, you will need to learn to live fully in the present moment as you learn to focus on the science-based rational humanistic ethical values that make possible our understanding of the brain facts.

In the process of learning new things about your brain, you will also be learning about the fantastic complexity of the universe and its significance to human life on our wonderful home planet Earth. It is the only planet in the universe known to support human life and the rich evolutionary biological diversity that exists here.

You may have to train your SELF to forget any negative metaphors and habits that you may have learned in the past. By using your objective scientific knowledge, you can begin to THINK with rational humanistic ethical values and assumptions about the nature of reality. The six Smart Skill-Sets on this website can focus your attention like laser beams on your genuine ability to change the direction of your life with your natural "brainpower" in order to live longer and be happier and more satisfied.
